Whiteknights Primary School is entering its ninth year as an English Hub and has developed a highly successful team, driven by a strong commitment to improving reading outcomes for children.

To support this work, we are seeking to recruit outstanding primary and secondary teachers to work as Literacy Specialists.

Literacy Specialists are experienced school practitioners with a secure and well-developed understanding of early reading, systematic synthetic phonics, language development and reading fluency. In this role, you will work in partnership with schools to strengthen literacy provision through training, coaching and collaborative support. Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate a proven impact on pupil progress, strong subject and pedagogical knowledge in literacy, and the ability to mentor and develop other teachers and leaders.

This role requires flexibility and a commitment to working beyond your own setting, contributing to the wider educational community with a shared aim of securing consistently high standards in teaching and learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support Partner School leaders to implement the Challenge Checklist across an agreed number of support days

  • Coach leaders and teachers in systematic synthetic phonics (SSP)language development and/or reading fluency

  • Track schools’ progress in early reading and support Partner Schools with the submission of half-termly data

  • Produce a written report following each visit, identifying progress made and setting clear action points for the next half term

  • Complete Reading Audits under the guidance of the Hub Lead

  • Support the delivery of medium-level training across the wider Whiteknights English Hub network
